VehicleSteering
Since 0.6
Steering geometry and feel.
Absent entirely is the same as authoring every default, so a vehicle that says nothing here still steers.
Fields
| Field | Type | Required | Default | Allowed values | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
maxAngle | number | no | 0 | Steering lock in RADIANS at a fully steered wheel, greater than zero — the angle a wheel with steerable 1 reaches at full input. 0.6 rad is about 34 degrees, normal for a car; a long-wheelbase van turns less and a go-kart more. Defaults to 0.6. This is the number that decides a vehicle's turning circle, so it is worth authoring per class rather than taking the default. | |
rate | number | no | 3 | How fast the steer angle may change, in radians per second, greater than zero. It is what stops a keyboard or a stick snapping to full lock in a single tick; a wheel controller wants a high value so the input passes through unfiltered. Defaults to 3. | |
speedReduction | number | no | 0 | How much of maxAngle is taken away at speedReductionAt, 0..1. 0.35 leaves the lock at 65% of its standing-still value there, which is what keeps a vehicle from spinning on a motorway twitch. 0 disables the reduction. Defaults to 0.35. | |
speedReductionAt | number | no | 40 | The speed in METRES PER SECOND at which speedReduction is fully applied, greater than zero; below it the reduction scales down in proportion. 40 m/s is about 90 mph. Defaults to 40. |
